Queen of Fruits

Ok, for those of you who didn't know this already, the Queen of Fruits is no other than the Purple Mangosteen! (and the King of Fruits is the Durian)

The mangosteen is a tropical fruit. Beware when you eat it not to let the skin come into contact with your clothes if not *tada* you're left with a lovely permanent stain. Another interesting fact is that you see the nice flower pattern on the bottom of the fruit? It actually shows you how many wedges of fruit is in it. It's yummy too! haha.

WIKIPIDEA EXTRA: The mangosteen is commonly known as "The Queen of fruits" in parts of southeast Asia, notably Singapore and Malaysia. It is believed to have "cooling" properties that counteract the "heatiness" of durians, the so-called "King of fruits". The fact that the fruiting seasons of these two fruits coincide makes these titles particularly apt.

Remember back in KL or anywhere else for that matter, there'll be road side stalls set up selling fruits whenever the season arrives? Sometimes the mangosteen are sold in a nice tied up bunch too! I'm not sure how much mangosteen costs per kg because dad is the one who buys fruits and comes home with 2 bags full or a carton. -___-" (from his friend in Petaling Street or from wholesalers in Selayang)

So a few days ago I made a new friend who works at Coles and was telling us how Coles is selling Mangosteen for $1+ EACH.

Seeing is believing.
Went to Coles yesterday with my sister and I saw Mangosteen!
WTF, $1.95 EACH! FOR ONE!

I probably could get more than 1kg of Mangosteen back in KL with ($1.95 x 2.9) that amount!
Pooh, but this is Perth. They probably had to inccur storage, shipping, etc cost. But seriously? Who would buy this ridiculously priced fruit? Cannot bluff Asians okay!

Mangosteen at Coles

My trolley containing some newly purchased items and my bag was almost taken away by some guy while I was taking this picture. haha. He was distracted looking at me taking this picture that he just took my trolley. He soon realized what happened and apologized. I only realized what happened after he apologized and my sister told me what happened. I was confused as to why the trolley was suddenly not infront of me. XD

p.s. Another fruit that I think is overpriced is the Avocado. Maybe I just think so because I have an Avocado tree outside my house that produces an abundant amout of fruits when its in season...
